Initial Days:
Disturbed by the plight of the girl children on the streets of Park Circus Kolkata, who were involved in begging, rag picking, open to abuse from people involved in criminal activities, drug peddling and prostitution, the sister of the cross took initiative to engage the children so as to save them from falling into these traps.
It began by availing the parlour of the provincial house of the Sisters of the Sisters of the Cross to gather girls from the streets and to clean them up and provide hygiene.
They were also given motivation to develop a taste for education.
Inspired by the stories of changes to the quality of lives of the girls through education, more and more girls approached the Navjeevan. This gave us hope and strength to start our educational activities in a rented shed on the roof of Mr . Antony’s house.
